The Iota Chapter of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. at the University of California, Los Angeles, invited 400 young girls from the Los Angeles area to our 11th Annual Latina Youth Leadership Conference. We provided these young girls with workshops on A-G Requirements, Financial Aid, How to Deal with Being Away from Home, Time Management etc. We also had guest speakers such as Monica Gil and Patricia Gandara to share a few words of wisdom. Our goal was to inspire and empower these young minds all to excite them to pursue a higher education. For many of the girls we assisted, this was the first time on a college campus or interacting with college students.

To be the rose that grew from concrete is one of the most astonishing yet beautiful things anyone can witness. We want the girls we serviced to be that rose and overcome any obstacles that may come in their way. We want them to prove to themselves that they are strong and even if all the odds are against them they could still become successful.

Here are a few things the girls had to say at the end of the day:

“I have never been to a college before, this was amazing.”

“I loved [LYLC] compared to the other conferences I’ve been to.”

“Keep doing what you’re doing! I was really empowered..”

“Everything was extremely helpful. I learned so much”

“I love UCLA!”

“I think I want to go to college now.”
